Oh Lanky Lanky

Saturday 14th September saw the start of the new BICC season. First game the Red Rose faced the mighty Devon at St Thomas Sport & Social Club - Wigan. This start of the 2019 - 2020 can mean only one thing......

NEW NARNA TIME! Would I finally get on this Banana....after 3 season trying previously?

My dad pictured above is not a well man. He has always wanted to watch me play for my county and this weekend his wish came true. He proved to be my good luck charm as finally.....after games of trying I finally hit a maximum 180 wearing my precious county shirt.

After a fantastic start to the weekend by our B Team on Saturday it was the turn f the A's to build on this and kick off the start of the season to a cracking start.

Devon are a very capable and dangerous team. It would never be easy an easy fixture. I found it baffling how they were relegated 2 years ago as the caliber of players is second to none.

First game back you always want to get the win for your team. Perhaps I had added to the pressure with wanting to play well for my watching dad. Things did not really go to plan.

Both myself and Devons Jody set off to a nervy start with Jody casting the first blow due to missed doubles. I started to find my mark in the second however a miss count meant I missed the required double because I went for another. Jody took the second leg against the darts. I was so cross with myself.

I often play better when behind. I also get the fire in my belly when angry. The third leg was going to be mine! After 12 darts I was down to 132. I stepped up to the oche and hit two treble twenties. I stepped back to compose myself before going for double six for a swift 15 dart leg. I only went and hit big 13 and bust the score. After a few more darts I finally knocked up. The battle back was beginning.

Fourth leg started with a nice 100. Finally, in this leg, I hit my first competative 180 wearing my Lancashire shirts. a nice 17 dart leg leveled the score. Onto our decider. This decider was s nervy as the first leg. We both got down to the double but I was first to hit double 10 in one dart. Averages didn't matter here....it was a full on slug fest however Victory was mine.....just!

After a fantastic weekend against a very good Devon team the Red Army were victorious by 24 legs to 12. Next game is in Essex. Bring it on.
