The Danes Hit the Mark

Thursday 2nd May saw the Morecambe mob head off down to Stanstead to catch our early morning flight over to Billund - Denmark. After our long day but short flight we arrived at our accommodation. The rooms were a lot smaller than we thought so had to pay to upgrade to make sure we actually got a normal bed rather than a roll out one on the floor. Friday was a day/night of rest in preparation for the Category 'A' darts competitions the next two day.

Saturday morning saw me get a bye through to the next round meaning my first game was at 13.30. Sometimes its better to actually play and get yourself match warm rather than just practice warmed up. I felt eerily calm and confident in my first game smashing my opponent off the oche with a 4.0 win including a nice 15 dart leg being ended with a nice 131 checkout.

Despite my earlier game I was not as calm entering my second game. I played a good game but was beaten by a young girl from Russia Vivien Czipo. She is most definately one to watch. Despite being knocked out in the last 32 I was not disheartened. I had played steadily and kept with my opponent all the way.

Sunday saw the second competition in the fantastic Ice Hockey arena. This venue was huge. It had plenty of seating & boards. It did just lack some practise boards on the first day but this was rectified on day two. There was a fantastic choice for food and it was really cool to play in (rather than the normal roasting venues). Denmark and their darts open ticks all the boxes for me. It is my favourite comp to date.

Day two ended after not dropping a single leg until I faced the awesome and very much in form Laura Turner in the last 16 of the competition. A very close game with pressure shots from both but a missed bull for myself meant Laura could step in and take a 4.1 victory. The result did not reflect the closeness of the game.

Leaving Denmark with a last 16 & last 32 result is not was I wanted however I am liking my current form. Some of the top names over both days did even place due to cruelty of the draws so I count my blessings.

I will await the rankings once they have been updated and go on to The Welsh Open 2019 next weekend. Let the fun & frolics begin.
